Privacy policy
Last updated: 7 July 2026
This is a plain-English explanation of what personal information Open Sparring collects, why, and what we do with it. We're an Australian business and we handle your information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
What we collect
When you sign up for a course or contact us, we collect:
- Your name, email address and mobile number — so we can confirm your booking, send you class reminders, and follow up about your training.
- How you found us — if you arrived from an ad, we record campaign details (UTM parameters and a Facebook click ID) so we know which ads actually work.
- Basic technical details — such as your browser type and an anonymised (hashed) form of your IP address, used for fraud prevention and measurement.
Cookies
We set first-party cookies that last 90 days: a random visitor ID, and a record of the campaign details above. They exist so we can attribute a signup to the ad that led to it. They don't track you around the web, and we don't use third-party advertising cookies on this site.
Advertising measurement (Meta)
If you sign up after clicking one of our ads on Facebook or Instagram, we tell Meta the signup happened so we're not charged for ads that don't work. Before anything is sent, your email, phone number and name are hashed (converted to an irreversible code, SHA-256). Meta can only match that code against accounts it already holds — we never send your readable personal details to Meta.
Payments and membership (Clubworx)
Course payments and memberships are processed by Clubworx, the club management platform used by gyms across Australia. Your payment details go directly to Clubworx and its payment providers — we never see or store your card number. Clubworx also stores your membership record, attendance and contact details on our behalf.
Messages from us
We send transactional messages (booking confirmations, class reminders) by SMS and email. Any marketing message we send identifies us and includes a way to opt out — reply STOP to any marketing SMS, or use the unsubscribe link in emails, as required by the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).
What we never do
- Sell your personal information. To anyone. Ever.
- Send your readable contact details to advertising platforms.
- Keep attribution data longer than we need it for measurement.
Access, correction and deletion
You can ask us at any time to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Email [TODO-CONTENT: privacy contact email] and we'll action deletion requests within 30 days (some records, like tax invoices, must be retained for the period required by Australian law).
Questions or complaints
Contact us first and we'll do our best to sort it out. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
